Original instituted in 1997, the Bike patrol officers provides a conspicuous police presence while increasing mobility and effectiveness. Bike Patrol officers are assigned to both residential and business districts and carry with them all of the duties and responsibilities of a motorized patrol unit. Additionally, the bike unit fulfills vital function during special events: i.e., parades, sporting events, festivals and community celebrations.
