The goal of the S.T.R.E.E.T. Initiative is to extend the safety of our children through the implementation of proactive initiatives designed to safeguard children from possible harmful situations while traveling to and from school. The Medford Township Police Department will maximize the cooperative efforts of the current School Resource Unit, the Patrol Bureau, the Criminal Investigative Bureau and the Traffic Unit to accomplish this mission.
Highlights and goals of the Initiative include:
- Voluntary
participation in the Amber Alert Program. The Amber Alert
program is a voluntary cooperative program between the
law enforcement community and the broadcast media to send
an emergency alert to the public when a child has been
abducted and it is believed that the child’s life
is in grave danger.
- Increased
presence of marked patrol units in the areas adjacent to
our schools during peak student traffic.
- Increase
education and enforcement of motor vehicle laws in
targeted area adjacent to our schools, i.e., parking,
pedestrian safety, seat belt enforcement, school zone
speed enforcement, through the utilization of special
designated S.T.R.E.E.T. patrol units.
Decrease the number of motor vehicle accidents in areas immediately adjacent to our schools during peak traffic times.
- Enter
into a cooperative effort with the Medford Township Board
of Education and the Medford Township Police Associations
to expand the scope of Operation KidCare.
Enter into a cooperative effort with the Medford Board of Education to implement a voluntary student fingerprint identification program to all K-5 students.
- Increase
the awareness of the Neighborhood Watch Programs in the
reporting of suspicious activities in and around our
schools.
- Develop and implement a training program utilizing existing resources within the Township to observe and report suspicious activity.
