COMMUNITY
PROGRAMS
- Amber Alert
The AMBER Plan is a voluntary, cooperative program between the law enforcement community and the broadcast media to send an emergency alert, called “AMBER Alert,” to the public when a child has been abducted and it is believed that the child’s life is in grave danger. Once notified of an authenticated abduction, the New Jersey State Police contacts the broadcast media, the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), as well as all listed AMBER Alert partners. NOAA immediately interrupts radio and television programming to broadcast information about the abducted child, and/or the abductor. - HAPPY
H.A.P.P.Y. Campaign (Helmets and Police Protecting Youth). This program is designed to promote the use of helmets by children under the age of 14.
- KidCare
Project KidCare is a national child photo identification and safety education program that was jointly developed by Polaroid and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The objectives of the program are to increase awareness about the issue of missing and exploited children and to educate parents and children about the ways they can protect themselves. - Neighborhood Watch
Neighborhood Watch is a program involving the joint efforts of the police and the community, designed to enhance neighborhood security, heighten the community’s power of observation, and to encourage mutual assistance and concern among neighbors. Neighborhood Watch is not the formation of a neighborhood patrol group. The program is a cooperative effort among citizens and the Medford Police Department. It is important to note that the program is not intended for civilians to stop criminal or suspicious activity. Simply see it, hear it, or suspect it . . . . REPORT IT TO THE POLICE - Night Eyes
The Night Eyes program is a crime prevention program. Admittedly there is no way to make a business impenetrable but there are ways to slow down the average burglar. Although we cannot control the desire I some individuals to commit a crime, we can reduce the opportunities through target hardening and the collection of business information. Through this program and partnership that will be formed between the Police and Business Community, the quality of life and the level of service provided to all will be increased. -
Project Childsafe
The Medford Township Police Department is proud to be partnered with the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police with the Project ChildSafe, the nation’s largest firearm safety education program, has encouraged missions of gun owners to practice safe and responsible firearm ownership and storage since it began distributing gun lock safety kits.
- S.T.R.E.E.T.
The goal of the S.T.R.E.E.T. Initiative is to extend the safety of our children through the implementation of proactive initiatives designed to safeguard children from possible harmful situations while traveling to and from school. The Medford Township Police Department will maximize the cooperative efforts of the current School Resource Unit, the Patrol Bureau, the Criminal Investigative Bureau and the Traffic Unit to accomplish this mission.
